AVIcode, Inc., was a highly successful spinout of VIAcode Consulting. Very early on, VIAcode’s founders realized that there was a large and untapped opportunity for an application that monitor .Net applications in operation. The Company’s founders formed a separate company called AVIcode, Inc., to manage, sell, and support the VIAcode-developed product, Intercept Studio.

What Intercept Studio Does

Intercept Studio became the most powerful platform available for real-time, in-production monitoring of Microsoft .Net applications. Using Intercept Studio, IT teams can:

  • Keep .Net applications available to users 24/7.
  • Maintain peak application performance at all times.
  • Identify the root cause for application faults and performance bottlenecks.
  • Design and develop applications that work effectively in operation.
  • Save time and cost in launching new applications by quickly assessing performance characteristics during deployment without costly and time-consuming “instrumentation” or recompiling.

VIAcode Consulting continually enhanced Intercept Studio on behalf of AVIcode from 2002 to 2010 – creating deep integrations into both Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager and Microsoft Visual Studio. In addition, Quest Software and AVIcode, Inc., executed an OEM agreement, where Quest would repackage and sell Intercept Studio as the .Net version of its Foglight Application Monitoring software suite. To this day, no other Performance Management solution for .Net is as functionally complete.

The Result

Hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies now use Intercept Studio for .Net Application Performance Monitoring, including Computer Sciences Corporation, Microsoft Internal IT, Wolters Kluwer, Citigroup, Fidelity Investments, Rockwell Automation, US Department of the Treasury, and McGraw Hill.

In October 2010, Microsoft decided that the VIAcode Consulting-developed Intercept Studio product was a perfect addition to the Systems Center application suite. Microsoft acquired AVIcode, Intercept Studio product line, and the development team. Brad Anderson of Microsoft noted, “Bringing together the capabilities of Operations Manager with the enhancements from AVIcode enables organizations to truly get the 360-degree view of their service—independent of where the service is hosted, whether a datacenter/cloud, in a partner’s hosted data center/cloud, or from a public cloud solution such as Windows Azure.”
